Snippets of conversations this past week between HH and I as we have been in the process of moving to a new house:
"Do you think we really need two fondue pots?"
"I can't feel my arms."
"What does this switch do." (Update: apparently nothing)
"I see lots of fast food in our future for the next several weeks."
"Oh great! Our curtains are too short!"
"I'm not sure about this color." - after a couple hours of painting
"Why is it still 77 degrees in here when I set the air conditioning to 70?"
"These people apparently had no idea how to install a towel bar."
"I smell dog pee in here, and LOOK - a brand new Glade Plug-In they used to try to cover it up!"
"These people said they are 99.9% sure they are going to rent our old place." (Update: never heard from them again)
"Apparently covering up stenciled stars on the ceiling takes approximately 578 coats of paint!"
"Ok, so the clothes rods in the closet aren't actually high enough for pants or dresses. What the f*#!"
"NO - don't put that there!"
"Ummm...is our furniture even going to fit in here?"
"This flipping power washer doesn't work!!!!"
"Hey, look, at the sunset from our backporch!"
"Can you believe this place is ours?"
"Nope, it's everything we've ever dreamed of!"
"I love you"
"I love you too"
"Are we done yet?"

we've been here about 4 years now and still ask what some switches do! and we still say we're not sure about the paint color :-)
how exciting! ...and frustrating. Congrats!
So this is what I have to look forward to?!? Congrats on the new place. I know it's pretty darn exciting.
I have a switch and it has this red button thingy above it and after 13 years, I stopped trying to figure out exactly what it does.
Yay - have fun with it!
I'm JEALOUS. I've moved 3 times in the past 3 years. I'm getting ready to move for the 4th time with a 5th time a sure thing as this next move is to a rental house.
Not once. NOT ONCE has my husband / soon to be ex husband lifted a fucking finger or assisted in ANY way...making keys, utilities, movers, yardsales, nothing. And every single move was HIS idea. Yep that's right.
And yes, I have a glass of wine in my hand right now. I've had one hell of an afternoon!
You hold on to HH like skink to a skunk!
GG - Skink to a skunk? Must be an Alabama phrase! haha!
Trust me, I know how moving is doing it all by myself as well and I am so grateful for the relationship I have now!
This is my 6th move in 3 years. The other five were all done on my own. You will find someone that deserves to be with you!
I don't like moving, we lived in our past house for almost 8 years and the current one almost the same amount of time. The weekend before we moved in Boo painted the enitre living room for me, spent one long all nighter doing it and when I got to the house that morning, the color was not at all what I wanted, I did not gripe but was shocked at his surprise. Lo and behold he said no problem, I can repaint it and did before we moved everything in. We have helped TONS of people move but seems like whenever we needed them, they were busy or scarce so all we've known is moving by ourselves, its a pain but what do you do when you have no other choice. Besides moving to a new place is so exciting and new, everything is all new a new start, new memories, oh and lets not forget that you are going to have to start christening all the rooms ;-). Congratulations!
awww. The joys of making a new place feel like home. It's kinda fun in a stressful sort of way!
